Tomás Pascual Gómez-Cuétara

Wikispanishfood editorial team

Calidad Pascual, formerly Grupo Leche Pascual, is one of those companies that Spaniards associate with more than just its products. The company evolved in parallel with the country's agri-food industry, from its very first UHT milk. Its chairman, Tomás Pascual Gómez-Cuétara, is one of those businessmen that had to be featured in our Who's Who section.

I knew his father, Tomás Pascual Sanz, having met with him at his office on Manoteras Avenue on two occasions. As a result, I have a better understanding of the man that has helmed Calidad Pascual since 2006.

He was born on September 27th, 1962, and is married with five children. He interned in several of the company's departments (starting with the warehouse) from 1980 to 1987, while getting his degree in industrial engineering. This allowed him to learn the ins and outs of the company firsthand.

Following this initial phase at Calidad Pascual, he traveled to the US to continue his training at several companies, including White Rock and Bank of America in New York, which provided him with the experience to take the reins of the family business.

After several years there, he returned to Spain, to Calidad Pascual, in 1991.In line with the succession plan, he worked in various departments until 1996, including procurements, manufacturing, R&D, quality and sales.

After that five-year period, during which he learned about the company's value chain, Tomás Pascual Gómez-Cuétara undertook the strategic management of the firm and control of operating management of all of its general departments.

After more than 20 years with the company, he has extensive knowledge about how it works, from warehousing, logistics and sales through to strategy implementation in recent years.

A very family-oriented chairman

Like his father, Pascual is tireless and curious, with the result that he most enjoys the creation side of the business, i.e. the overall vision, from innovating through to marketing new products. He also inherited a great capacity for learning, and is both humble and discreet, qualities which characterize the Pascual family.

He is a family man and a true and loyal friend, and he always wanted a big family—and he got it.He tries to spend as much time as possible with his children and granddaughter.

Pascual is a movie buff, and can often be seen on a Friday night at one of Madrid's many movie theaters. He is also an avid reader, with a penchant for historical novels.

Music is another of his passions and, like any good musiclover, he has a vast collection of pop-rock albums. His favorites include Genesis, Queen and the Rolling Stones.

Tomás Pascual Gómez-Cuétara dedicates time to developing his mind and also his body. As a sports lover, he is a natural born skier who prefers to off-piste skiing, but has the good sense not to take any unnecessary risks.
