Alfonso Alcázar Martínez

This month we're featuring Alfonso Alcázar Martínez, Managing Director of Grupo Tello.

Originally from Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real), he has a degree in Pharmacy from the Complutense University of Madrid, a Master's in Marketing and Sales Management from ESIC (Madrid), and he completed the course on Management, Marketing and Sales at Deusto (Bilbao). He also studied finance at the Business Initiatives School in Barcelona.

He started out as a sales director with Gregorio Díaz-Miguel, S.A. from 1991 to 1994, after which time he joined Iparlat S.A. as its Key Account Manager (1994 to 1996) and Sales Director (1996 to 1998). That same year he joined Industrias Cárnicas Tello, S.A. Totanés (Toledo), where he was Sales Director until 2000, when he became General Sales Manager, until 2004.

For the next four years, he was the General Sales Manager at COVAP (Cooperativa del Valle de los Pedroches) until, in 2008, he became Managing Director of the Consorcio de Jabugo, S.A. in Jabugo (Huelva). He was also director of Quesos Canal, S.A. (Valladolid), until 2011. Since November of that year, Alcázar has been the Managing Director of Grupo Tello Alimentación.

Grupo Tello Alimentación is a company based in Toledo that is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Half a century of experience preparing meat products and focusing on the customer experience, and on the product's health and gastronomic qualities. Recently, companies like Pamplonica and Mina, have strengthened the growing group, starting out with the addition of brands with a clear commitment to quality, such as Frial and Sánchez Montero.

Up-close and personal

Outside of his professional life, Alfonso loves music, reading, and eating out with his family.

Music has been a constant in his life, ever since he was a kid. He always listened to it and played it, except for jazz, which he was never able to "understand." Every day he wakes up and plays the piano and reads sheet music for an hour, hour and a half.

On the weekends, he reads as much as he can. He's systematic about it, and he's always reading three books at once: one about work (management, marketing, nutrition, food science, etc.) and the others on different topics: history, novels, art, poetry, philosophy, essays, etc.

Eating out with his family is also very important. He tries to go out with his wife and two kids on the weekends to restaurants in Madrid and beyond and enjoys discovering and trying out new places (or revisiting his favorites).

Alfonso also considers himself a runner. He's completed a few marathons, around 20 half-marathons, and many 10Ks. Recently, though, he is training considerably less during the week and participating less often in events. Although he prefers dry land, he's fascinated by the sea, especially sailing, and although he has little free time, he tries to get away to sail in the Mediterranean during 1 or 2 weekends between May and October.

Above all, Alfonso Alcázar is an industry leader, very intelligent and also well-read. He is helping the company gain a very strong position within the sector. I'm certain that, in addition to all of his education, his social skills and outstanding professionalism (that I've always seen) are an important aspect of his professional success.
