Adding value to spanish exports

Two Designations of Origin and just one name: EMINA

Wiki Spanish Food editorial team

In 1988, after dabbling in other industries, the winemaker returned to Valbuena de Duero where, in 1995, Emina was created, in San Bernardo, along the Ribera del Duero's "Golden Mile", the triangle formed by Valbuena de Duero, Pesquera de Duero and Peñafiel.

With an unwavering commitment to quality, Emina gradually became a leading winery along that Golden Mile. At the end of the 1990s, Emina strengthened its growth in the area of excellent, distinct, and elegant wines.

The construction of Bodega Emina in San Bernardo, ten years later in 2005, represented a qualitative and quantitative leap for the company.

Emina Rueda is also in Valladolid province, in the town of Media del Campo, in the area with the greatest and best potential for white wine production in all of Spain: DO Rueda. A winery built in 2007 with a clear commitment to R&D and innovation and quality white wines.

In the same area as Bodega Emina Rueda is the recently built Almazara Oliduero oil mill, which has an annual capacity to press 450,000 kilos of olives, yielding around 74,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil each year, produced by Oliduero and external olive-growers.

The oil mill is also prepared to receive visitors who want to learn more about the olive oil making process and to become a leading tourist site in the area.

Both wineries, Emina Ribera del Duero and Emina Rueda, are equipped with the latest technology which, together with the efforts of a highly professional winemaking team, enables them to produce outstanding white, red and sparkling wines.

Emina owns more than 300 hectares of vineyards in one of the best areas of Rueda and Ribera del Duero for producing high-end wines, and has a broad range of whites, rosés and reds; its commitment to quality wines can be traced back to the vineyard.

Emina also produces excellent alcohol-free wines, spirits and aguardiente, extra virgin olive oil and high-end cosmetics made from grape polyphenols.

Enotourism experiences

Emina also creates proximity with wine lovers by reinventing the concept of enotourism and creating the EMINA WINE MUSEUM, a functional building outfitted with the latest technology in a unique and beautiful location.

Visitors can see the various parts of the winery (the wine caves, the wine tank room, the labeling and bottling area, the wine racks, etc.) while they learn about wine history and tradition at our bodegas; the process of making wines, sparkling wines and aguardientes; the different types of vineyards; and the distinct types of land in the area.

Beside the winery is La Espadaña de San Bernardo restaurant, and Hotel Rural Emina is located in Valbuena de Duero; both places complement the broad enotourism offer.

Emina has become a driver of this trend in Castile-León, and many people visit its diverse facilities, where they have unique experiences and engage in a range of wine-related activities: guided tours, wine tastings, wine tastings with cosmetic product testing, and food pairings and events.

Commitment to R&D and innovation

EMINA winery exemplifies Grupo Matarromera's commitment to innovation and sustainability. It is the Spanish winery with the largest ongoing investment in R&D and innovation in sustainability, health and new product categories, and is the company in the industry with the greatest commitment and recognition for its efforts. It received the European Environment Award, in the Spanish category, from Entorno Foundation, in recognition of its energy efficiency and environmental protection program, presented by the Prince and Princess of Asturias in 2012.

Ongoing research, its resolute focus on high quality raw materials, and its commitment to innovation enable EMINA to constantly improve its vineyard maintenance and production processes, which allow it to continuously enhance the quality and excellence of its wines.
