The first of the season

The 28th edition of Salon de Gourmets, to be held from March 10th to the 13th, was announced this week. The guest of honor will be Japan. This year's event will include several new areas, such as EcoGourmets, for organic products; GourmetSweet, for the confectionery segment; GourmetPlus, for equipment and technology; and the best wines featured in the 2014 edition of the Gourmets Guide, with wineries whose wines scored 92/100 and higher.

On another note, the early collection of olives and the production of special oils is a growing trend. Producers are increasingly focusing on the harvest's "first" oil, which is generally a top-flight extra virgin olive oil. One example is an exclusive line by Castillo de Canena. The bottle, of which just 20,000 are available, was designed by Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso, and the oil is made from Arbequina and Picual olives. These types of select products compensate producers, due to their higher prices andexcellent reception in international markets.

And, as has become customary, we are bringing you the latest news on Spanish gastronomy. You won't want to miss the interview with chef Juan Pozuelo, who was recently named Olive Oil Ambassador in Spain. For this prestigious cook, "liquid gold" is the "perfect food".

We also take a look at the current state of Spain's beet and sugar sector. Issues causing problems and the future those farmers face are just some of the topics we address in the article.

Spanish omelet is one of the most international dishes in Spain's gastronomic repertoire. Chef Senén González, winner of the Best Spanish Omelet Award, has created the Spanish Burger: tortilla de patata in the shape of a burger, ready to conquer palates around the world.

Any idea which winery recently celebrated its 25th anniversary? Matarromera, in Valladolid, successfully makes wines in four Designations of Origin through which the river Duero flows: Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Cigales and Toro.

We also offer a closer look at some of our renowned products in Europe with the PDO seal, such as Dehesa de Extremadura Ibérico ham and Estepa extra virgin olive oil. All this and much more, just a click away.

Have a nice week!
