Meat Attraction, the meat industry's fair, concluded after a successful first edition, held from October 18th to the 20th at IFEMA in Madrid. More than 9,000 trade professionals visited the first fair in Spain dedicated exclusively to the sector, which is the fourth-largest industry in Spain and generates revenues of 22.6 billion euros. The new project, organized by IFEMA and the National Meat Processing Industries Association of Spain (ANICE), brought together 242 exhibitors and companies from 16 countries, and was especially well-received by the industry.
The main goal of this new event, which was inaugurated on October 18th by Isabel García Tejerina, Minister for Agriculture and Fishing, Food and the Environment, and Ana Pastor, President of the Congress of Deputies, is to provide a platform to promote the sector and, in particular, boost internationalization among its SMEs. In this regard, the organizers were successful, as visitors came from 37 countries and companies from the following countries participated: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, the US, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Morocco, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the UK and Sweden.
Meat Attraction made a special effort to attract wholesalers, importers and exporters, commercial and retail distribution chains, hotels, restaurants, groups and producers of meat and meat byproducts. It's worth highlighting the program of procurement managers and national and international opinion leaders, organized by IFEMA with a 300,000 euro investment; a total of 218 buyers were invited, from 25 countries, mainly in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
With a view to opening up the Spanish sector to new markets that are strategically interesting, the first Spanish-Chinese Forum on Beef and Sheep Meat was held the day before the fair, on October 17th, organized by the Interprofessional Organization for Beef (Provacuno) and the Interprofessional Organization for Sheep and Goat Meat (Interovic). Business leaders from both countries met with a view to expanding information about Spanish meat production and business opportunities available to Chinese importers and sellers.
Some leading companies, and their governing bodies, viewed the event as a qualified commercial platform for promoting Spanish companies' extensive export capacity. That is the result of having a quality product that is increasingly viewed favorably outside Spain.
Meat Attraction 2017 provided a platform and meeting point for all industry players involved in production and sales, such as slaughterhouses, cutting plants, processing companies, and firms specialized in storage and transport, and marketing and domestic and international distribution, to both the retail sector and to HoReCa, as well as those on the supply side (producers, processors and distributors of meat and meat byproducts, and industry and meat distribution suppliers).
