The first extra virgin olive oil with the Mediterranean Diet logo lands in the US

The first extra virgin olive oil with the Mediterranean Diet Foundation logo on its label recently touched down in the US. The oil, which has PDO Montes de Toledo status, is the first EVOO to come from Spain with that distinction. This is the first bottle of Spanish extra virgin olive oil whose label reflects the cooperation agreement between the Mediterranean Diet Foundation and PDO Montes de Toledo reached in November.

The director of the PDO, Enrique García-Tenorio, noted that the oil, "Zoe Diva", is produced by Aceites Toledo SA and is focused on the US market, one of the main consumers of PDO Montes de Toledo oil and the primary destination of Spanish olive oil exports outside the European Union.

According to García-Tenorio, the other brands backed by the PDO will include the logo on their labels in the coming months, thanks to the agreement reached between the president of the PDO, Andrés Gómez Mora, and the president of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation, Francisco Martínez Arroyo, who is also the Minister for Agriculture within the Castile-La Mancha regional government. This collaboration will benefit more than 10,000 farmers and 34 cooperatives, as well as oil producers and packaging companies, in Toledo and Ciudad Real associated with the PDO who have obtained certification for their products in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065 standard.

It's worth nothing that this is the first Spanish regulatory council to be accredited by the Spanish National Accreditation Body (ENAC) for certification of extra virgin olive oil made from Cornicabra olives only, thereby guaranteeing the technical expertise, independence and impartiality required under that standard.
