Spanish flavors in the spotlight in New York

Wikispanishfood Editorial Team

The Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB) is supporting the Spanish food and drink industry's participation at the Summer Fancy Food fair underway in New York.

There are 75 companies in the Spanish pavilion at the fair, representing sectors such as olive oil, meat products, confectionery and breads, wine and alcoholic beverages, sauces and condiments, table olives, canned vegetables, dairy products, snacks, and packaged beverages, among others.

The fair, now in its 65th edition, is the traditional gateway for gourmet stores and deli products from Spain. It's one of the most important fairs on the east coast of the US, where Spanish companies look to strengthen their position and expand their presence.

A new feature of this edition is that ICEX, together with the FIAB, organized a gastronomic space within the Spanish pavilion. It will offer a more dynamic setting that provides greater visibility and value to Spain's offer and which has been very well received by trade professionals attending the fair, from Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Zabars, Central Market and Starbucks, among others.

In 2018, sales to the US amounted to 1.728 billion euros, accounting for 5.7% of total exports. This market continues to perform positively; however, the US government's tariff policy has slowed growth for Spanish and European companies there.
