Central Lechera Asturiana has rolled out its new project, El Maestro Quesero (The Master Cheesemaker), which will bring together five Asturian cheesemakers who produce artisan cheese using the company's milk.
The five varieties chosen are: PDO Cabrales, PDO Afuega’l Pitu, PDO Casín, PGI Los Beyos, and Queso Tradicional Vidiago, all of which are handcrafted and have the best guarantee possible: Asturias.
These cheese will be sold in Spain under the El Maestro Quesero brand. They will also have the Alimentos del Paraíso Natural seal, which distinguishes those foods produced using traditional methods, passed down from generation to generation, and which bear the unique geographical characteristics of the region.
The presentation was attended by the following people: the Minister for Rural Development and Natural Resources, María Jesús Álvarez González; the General Director of Central Lechera Asturiana, José Armando Tellado; and the owners of the five cheese companies participating in the project: Alberto López, from Afuega'l Pitu; Maribel Alvarez and Natalia Lobeto, from Casín; José Antonio Teleña, from Los Beyos; Manuel Collera, from Vidiago; and Manuel Rodriguez, from Cueva del Molín (Cabrales).
"This project confirms our commitment to Asturias and to small, local producers, and also represents progress in our growing commitment to cheese. All five are high-quality products made with milk from the very best farms in Asturias, since it's vital to start with good raw materials from animals that are fed well with the best grass," said Jose Armando Tellado. El Maestro Quesero, which is in line with Central Lechera Asturiana's CSR strategy, aims to help set the company apart and support local cheesemakers as part of its commitment to quality and in line with its farm-to-table philosophy.
