Yesterday, Caja Rural del Sur hosted the presentation of the Annual Organic Production Report, in which the President of Ecovalia, Álvaro Barrera, said that "Organic production is a necessity of the future. Mitigating climate change depends on organic production."
The General Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, which is part of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development within the Andalusia regional government, Vicente Pérez, said that "Agriculture and livestock are under development. Livestock has a lot of potential. The new government has proposed a strategic plan for all sectors, especially for this one, which is very profitable and competitive."
According to general data, the increase in area allocated for organic production increased by 20.7%, and market figures exceed 92 billion euros.
In Europe, the market value of consumption is 37.3 billion euros, with the result that Spain ranks seventh. The number of registered producers increased by more than 6.5%, placing Spain in first position, with more than 2 million hectares.
Lastly, in Spain, the certified organic area expanded by 3.1%, and the number of operators is almost 44,000 (43,984), i.e. 5.3% more than in 2017. That number is expected to increase to more than 50,000 by 2020.
