The 10th edition of Fruit Attraction 2018 has come to an end, welcoming 81,235 trade professionals from 122 countries, reflecting growth of 19% year on year. This strengthens the fair's position as an essential tool for sector internationalization, making it a meeting point for all of the people that comprise the supply chain and the fruit and vegetable market's innovation framework.
Organized by IFEMA and FEPEX, Fruit Attraction 2018 was held from October 23rd to the 25th, and this was the largest and most comprehensive of all editions. A total of 1,621 companies from 40 countries participated in a space spanning 51,400 square meters, 15% more than last year.
The decision to change the days of the fair, from Tuesday to Thursday instead of Wednesday to Friday, was a success and led to 69% growth in visitors on the last day. The data confirms the effectiveness of expanding the fair to three full days with a view to strengthening its useful commercial time.
One of the most notable aspects was the large increase in international visitors which, with a total of 27,994 trade professionals from 122 countries, reflected growth of over 40%. Most of them came from Europe, in particular from Italy, France, Portugal, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Belgium, which confirms the fair's standing as a key commercial event for European production, sales and distribution. Trade professionals also came from Brazil, Chile, Morocco, Peru and South Africa.
Visitors from the Guest Importer Market program, co-organized with ICEX, which was Canada and the Arabian Peninsula, totaled 374 people from Canada, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.
As for the exhibitors, international participants accounted for 36% of the total, with 580 companies from 40 countries, such as the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Greece, as well as strong growth from France, and non-EU countries like Chile, Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, Colombia, Argentina and South Africa, among others, with complete representation from the southern hemisphere for the first time. Representatives from Angola, the UAE, Finland, India, Iran, Mali, Malta, Russia and Serbia participated for the first time.
As for Spain, Fruit Attraction 2018 welcomed participants from all regions of Spain. There were 1,041 companies, 64% of the total, whose success was mainly attributable to considerable interest by Spanish fruit and vegetable production in international sales during a very important month for campaign planning.
Once again, the producer exhibition area, Fresh Produce, had the largest representation, with participation by 1,143 exhibitors. There was also healthy participation from ancillary industries, with 417 companies, reflecting the strength of the fruit and vegetable industry chain.
