Meat Attraction, a great opportunity

The National Meat Processing Industries Association of Spain (ANICE) organized an International Opportunities Event during which it analyzed the various instruments and initiatives supporting meat exporters in 2018.

During the event, the people responsible for internationalization from the sector's four main professional organizations (Interporc, Provacuno, Asici and Interovic) and representatives from ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, the Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB), and IFEMA-Feria de Madrid spoke to a large group of business people and export managers.

The members of the professional organizations discussed the actions envisaged for this year and highlighted the content in their respective promotional plans, which will be implemented thanks to approval from the European Union and, therefore, will receive EU funding.

This will enable Spain's meat sector to develop a broad presence throughout the world to raise awareness about Spanish companies' meat and meat byproducts, the industry's export capacity, and the quality of its products and their distinguishing features.

The professional organizations provide notable support in helping the various segments gain a foothold in new, priority markets, in cooperation with the Spanish government.

The Ibérico pork sector has requested a distinction in the tariff codes for white and Ibérico pork as an essential tool for understanding the destination and the importance of exports of these important Spanish products.

FIAB and ICEX reported on the various initiatives in place to boost food and beverage exports as well as programs available to support Spanish companies.

Those responsible for IFEMA provided information about the second edition of the Meat Industry Fair, Meat Attraction, which will be held from September 18th to the 20th this year at the Trade Fair Institution of Madrid, organized by IFEMA and ANICE. They noted that the reaction to the first edition had been very positive and exhibitors and visitors alike were extremely satisfied.

This year's edition of Meat Attraction will include new features, including its organization in September from Tuesday to Thursday, as well as a better program of buyers, the organization of B2B meetings and new innovation-related initiatives, and a focus on new products and trends and the future of meat and meat byproduct distribution.

ANICE noted that it has a specialized internationalization unit which helps companies resolve export-related problems, provides information about foreign trade obstacles and export opportunities, and collaborates with the central government in opening up new markets.

In just a few years, Spain's meat industry has achieved a leading position in the worldwide trade of meat and meat byproducts, validating companies' efforts based on the highest standards of animal health, quality, oversight, food safety and competitiveness, within the framework of the European production model, the world's strictest in terms of sustainability and animal wellbeing.
