The European supermarket industry heads to Amsterdam

The Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA), a non-profit organization founded in 1979 to promote private labeling, is holding its fair in Amsterdam, which will be a meeting point for the supermarket sector in Europe. Retailers and manufacturers will be in Amsterdam on May 24th and 25th, at the RAI Exhibition Centre, in search of new products, contacts and ideas within the private label segment.

The specialized event, which caters to professionals, will welcome 99 Spanish companies, whose visit is being organized by the Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB). There will be more than 4,300 stands in 60 national and regional pavilions.

The "SpaINnovation" area, which is part of the Spanish pavilion, will be especially interesting and aims to showcase Spanish companies and highlight some of their most innovative qualities: packaging, ingredients and other characteristics of their products.

As in previous editions, the SpaINnovation stands will be grouped together in a privileged location and decorated in a unique way in the Spanish pavilion. They will also have an extra showcase for exhibiting the most innovative product with an explanatory label highlighting its characteristics.

Products on display at PLMA Amsterdam will include fresh, frozen and refrigerated foods, dry grocery, and beverages as well as non-food categories, including cosmetics, health and beauty, household and kitchen, auto aftercare, garden, and housewares and DIY. To ensure that visitors don't miss a thing, the PLMA has organized the event in food and non-food pavilions.

In 2015, PLMA Amsterdam had 4,205 stands and 2,369 exhibitors. Of those, the majority were food-related: 1,714. Visitor numbers were highly impressive: 11,800 in total, with 120 different nationalities. The international importance of this fair is clearly reflected in the notable presence of companies from around the world, representing 80 countries. None of the major supermarket chains missed the event.

The Spanish pavilion was the most popular, along with the German, Italian and Dutch pavilions.
