The Interprofessional Agri-Food Organization for White Pigs (INTERPORC) implemented an ambitious set of activities to promote Spanish white pork products in China, as part of the SIAL China trade fair, held from May 5th to the 7th.
SIAL China, which is now in its 17th edition, has become one of the biggest international fairs in the food sector, which has made it an extremely important event for raising awareness about, and promoting, the Spanish pork industry, which has had its own stand through INTERPORC.
INTERPORC has also organized a series of activities, held in tandem, to strengthen relations with important groups such as distributors, journalists, opinion leaders and hospitality sector students.
Additionally, chef Kisko García (1 Michelin star) offered a masterclass to 50 students at the prestigious Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Shanghai, to which the Chinese media were also invited.
The Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Shanghai organized an event with 25 leading Chinese importers, and with other meat sector professionals, in which INTERPORC and other Spanish pork companies participated.
During SIAL China, INTERPORC offered tastings at its stand, mainly for professionals, and networked with professionals from China and other countries at the event.
INTERPORC's International Promotion Plan
These actions in Shanghai are part of the International Promotion Plan that INTERPORC is organizing in the European Union—the primary destination of Spanish pork—and in non-EU countries, including markets with high growth potential such as China, Japan, Brazil and Mexico, among others.
China is currently a growing market for white pork exports, which have expanded by 256% in the last four years, to over 327 million euros in 2015. That accounts for 8% of total Spanish exports from this sector which, in 2014, exceeded 4 billion euros for the first time and positioned Spain as the fourth-leading exporter at global level.
