Wiki Spanish Food editorial team

Today, online magazines Qcom.es and WikiSpanishFood.com celebrated the fifth edition of their awards, which recognize agri-food sector companies and their efforts to improve every day as well as the image portrayed by the sector vis-à-vis society.

These awards, which are aimed at agri-food sector professionals, also aim to highlight the significance of agri-food production and their importance for the Spanish economy as a whole, as it is Spain's leading industrial sector and often times it doesn't receive the recognition it deserves.

This year, innovation and sustainability in agri-food production was particularly important for Qcom.es' Technical Committee. The global economic situation poses challenges for us today, and especially in the future, and it's vital to achieve sufficient, quality production that is respectful of the resources available. Along these lines, Cristobal José Colón, Senior Manager of Indra Business Consulting, participated in the event with a presentation on Big Data applied to the agri-food sector and all of the possibilities it offers.

Ten awards were presented as part of this edition, including the Special Qcom.es award for Grupo Gourmets, which recognizes the company's 40-year track record and commitment to gourmet foods and beverages.

The award for the best institution went to the Castile-León government, in recognition of its Agrohorizonte 2020 program, while Freixenet, S.A. was recognized for its 100 years in business and its efforts in the area of cava, both in Spain and internationally.

The award for the best cooperative went to Valle de los Pedroches (Covap) for driving the social economy in its area, and the distinction for the best association went to Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias for its efforts to favor cooperative integration over the years.

Other companies that were recognized included Maheso, S. A., which received the award for the most innovative product, and Desarrollos Alimentarios Frescos, S.A. (DAFSA), which had the best agri-food website in the sector and was chosen through a contest on social media.

Lastly, the D. O. Rioja Regulatory Council received an award for having the best international promotional campaign in recognition of its efforts year after year around the world to position the image of its wines.

In short, Qcom.es and Wikispanishfood.com aim to highlight the efforts by agri-food companies and institutions in a sector that is constantly evolving and endeavors to meet the needs of society with new products and services for everyone. Fernando Burgaz, Agri-food Industry Director General at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, gave the closing remarks at the 2015 edition of the Qcom.es Awards, saying that "teamwork is vital for achieving a sustainable value chain".
