The Rías Baixas Martín Códax Lías 2011 Albariño was recently named The Best Wine in Spain 2014 in the Young White Wine category (no aging) by the Spanish Association of Wine Journalists and Writers (AEPEV).
This Rías Baixas wine, made by Bodegas Martín Códax, a leader in the DO, was chosen by the members of AEPEV in a two-round vote on almost 640 brands in the first phase of the competition, of which only one-fourth advanced to the final phase.
The award will be presented on April 10th at a gala lunch in Montilla (Córdoba). Attendees will include the provincial authorities and the executive boards of the AEPEV and of the International Federation of Wine and Spirits Journalists and Writers (FIJEV).
The AEPEV, which is headed by María Isabel Mijares, is a non-profit which operates throughout all of Spain. It comprises wine communication sector professionals, and its main objectives are defending wine as a healthy beverage, promoting the industry's image in the media and vis-à-vis public opinion in general, and representing the organization.
