China asks ElPozo to be its 'technological partner'

"ElPozo's technology model is precisely what we need in China", said Zhu Bangzao, China's Ambassador in Spain, after visiting the meat company's facilities. He also encouraged management to increase exports to China.

ElPozo chairman Tomás Fuentes described Bangzao's visit as "a unique opportunity for the ambassador to see first-hand our commitment to the food quality and safety that the international market deserves. We already operate in China, and we are going to strengthen this strategic line as we believe exports are a driver of growth".

ElPozo Alimentación's fresh meat sales to China account for 6% of the domestic total and expanded by 7% in the last year, confirming its focus on growing its commercial foothold in the Asian giant.

China is expected to become the world leader in per capita consumption of pork by 2022, surpassing the European Union.

In fact, Asia is currently one of ElPozo's primary export destinations, mainly for fresh pork. It also sells cured ham in China via several local distributors.

ElPozo, which is based in Murcia, operates in 82 countries and aims to strengthen its position in geographies with notable potential, such as Asia and Eastern Europe, and continue to enter new markets.
