A new record in Ribera del Duero

The delivery of back labels for wine bottles increased notably in the first half of 2013, setting a new record in Ribera del Duero. In the first six months of the year, the Regulatory Council provided Designation of Origin wineries with 41,156,418 back labels for the sale of wine in and outside Spain, an increase of 3.27% in year-on-year terms (39,854,530 in 1H12). This increase was especially notable in May and June, when labels increased by 8% and 12%, respectively, compared with the same period of 2012.

This half-yearly data confirms the upward trend in sales of Ribera del Duero wines during the last five years despite the widespread economic crisis, which has reduced consumers' purchasing power and led to a decline in wine consumption in Spain.

In view of the number of back labels delivered in the first half of this year, it's possible that the annual figure for 2013 will exceed the record obtained in 2012, when wineries requested 77,599,852 labels.
