A historical, abundant, quality harvest

Following an atypical harvest in La Mancha, impacted by late maturation of the grapes and pending definitive data, initial estimates suggest that this harvest far outstripped the last year's numbers. Stellar quality wines are expected, since the grapes were in excellent health (especially in the initial weeks of the harvest), following copious rainfall during the year and very good weather last summer.

If production in Castile-La Mancha is expected to exceed 25 million hectoliters, the amount of wine to be produced as part of the DO La Mancha (which geographically extends over more than half of the region) will foreseeably amount to 1-1.5 million hectoliters. This is an enormous amount, compared with other DOs in Spain and also in Europe. In short, it clearly reflects the enormous selection possibilities that quality wines from Castile-La Mancha have and, in particular, DO La Mancha; this has made it possible for sales of our wine to increase exponentially in recent years, all around the world, where they are highly valued for their quality and competitive price.

Moreover, 2013 will also be remembered as the year that many wineries and cooperatives in La Mancha showed their solidarity, when mass quantities of grapes arrived at certain companies, and they were forced to transfer their grape juice to other companies' deposits in the area. The abundance of grapes was due not only to the large harvest, but also to the speedy collection (specifically, to vineyard mechanization and a late start, which led to more groups of vintagers).

Once again, La Mancha will be the leading and largest wine producer in all of Europe. Good harvest numbers in the region can also balance out poor results elsewhere in the world. The region also has excellent promotional strategies, which have proven to be very effective outside Spain, where there is demand for young, fresh wines with great aromatic potential. DO La Mancha has significant scope for growth, supported by its fair prices and competitiveness. Bottled wines, in their focus on quality, must remain consistent with previous vintages, as major efforts to modernize and the commitment to meet consumer demands have been the main factors enabling La Mancha to establish its own identity and whose image has experienced an important, notable transformation in recent decades.
