The current Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), José Graziano da Silva, has been re-elected with the highest number of votes ever in the organization's history.

FAO member countries voted for a second term for Graziano da Silva, who received a total of 177 out of 182 votes cast. Addressing the plenary after his re-election, he reaffirmed the FAO's commitment to ending hunger and malnutrition.

He was the only candidate during this year's election cycle. His new term will run until July 2019.
